London Yard Management Company, Annual General Meeting, 31st January 2002.

Report by Ron Coverson

Security, Security and Security

plus Television Reception

Normally, the number of shareholders attending the AGM can be counted on the fingers of both hands. This meeting, however, was different. Twice the normal number of people put themselves out to ensure that the Board got the message regarding the general dissatisfaction with security at London Yard. The other bone of contention was the quality of television reception through the communal aerials.

Security

Resident after resident expressed dissatisfaction with the present security arrangements. The consensus of the meeting was clearly that the present security guard would not deter anyone and that the security was not sufficiently visible to either residents or potential criminals. A number of people thought that a CCTV system should be installed and that the option of installing gates at the entrances to Amsterdam Road should be considered.

The Chairman, obviously speaking without consulting the rest of the Board, promised that a security consultant would be engaged to review the situation and to recommend action to improve security.  This will present a problem to the Board because any security consultant worthy of the title would use up the annual security budget just for the report.

Television Reception

Despite the upgrade to the communal aerial system, carried out two years ago with the advent of ITV Digital, it was clear from the meeting that television reception was still a major problem on the estate.

It was reported that the Managing Agent was compiling the costs of installing communal satellite dishes on block roofs. This solution had been rejected by property owners about five years ago but, at the time, it was possible that the estate would soon be cabled. Cabling did not happen and is not likely to happen even in the distant future.

Three More Volunteer to be Directors

Following the AGM three more people volunteered to serve on the Board of Directors of London Yard Management Company. This brings the total to eight new volunteers. Watch this space for more details.

Emails to the Editor

Ron,
I was sitting behind you at the AGM (next to Peter who voiced his support of the web site at the end).  I agree.  This web site develops a real sense of community, and provides great communication.  I understand from some
conversations that several of the board (including the chairman) don't support the website.  I hope the new volunteers will bring some positive support to the board.

YARDER JOKE

of the MONTH

A man is driving up a steep, narrow mountain road. A woman is driving down the same road. As they pass each other, the woman leans out of the window and yells, "PIG!!

"The man immediately leans out of his window and replies, "BITCH!!"

They each continue on their way, and as the man rounds the next corner, he crashes into a pig in the middle of the road.

If only men would listen.
