New Faces of Security

The Management Company has hired a new security company, Alamo Security Services Ltd based in Stratford. The guards, who will share the task of keeping Yarders safe will be Augustine Gachi (left) and Glen Williams (right). Actually, Glen started work at London Yard a few weeks ago for the previous security company. He proved so popular that Jonathan Channing asked Alamo to take him on.

The security of London Yard should now be both more visible and more effective.

Not the Weakest Link

Christine Inglis, our vivacious Chairman, of the Management Company, competed on the BBC2 quiz game "The Weakest Link" recently. By anyone's standards Christine did well to only lose by a tiebreak at the end of the programme.   Viewers found out Christine's age [a lady's age is a secret - Ed] and that her partner is called "Dan the Man" and he was a "Banker (with a B)".

Noise From Over the River

Jane Gardner, a London Borough of Tower Hamlets Environmental Protection Officer, is dealing with residents' complaints about recent noise nuisance from Victoria DWT and liaising with her opposite number at the London Borough of Greenwich who are the authority responsible for any enforcement action. If you have any complaints about the noise from over the river keep a log of incidents (date, time, duration) and notify Jane by ringing 020 7364 5000.

Tower Hamlets Council has also been asked to provide observations on a planning application to LB Greenwich for further concrete crushing operations at this site and will raise concerns over noise in that context.

A Bridge to Tar

Ricky Lewis and his gang recently did a great job of painting the bridge and the other wooden constructions around the pond.

Satellite Dishes

With the demise of ITV Digital, it would not be wise for residents to rush to install Sky satellite dishes. Apart from being contrary to the provisions of the leases of Yarder properties, the management company are likely to bring forward proposals for communal dishes in the next few weeks. Hold off for the time being.

CCTV Confusion

Last month Londonyard.com reported that proposals for CCTV had been received from a number of potential suppliers. Rumour has it, however, that none included the major cost of cabling them to the Security Hut or other central recording point. This will probably delay any decision by a few months.

Hot on the Beach

Firemen put out a burning car tyre on the Beach.

YARDER JOKE

of the MONTH

A woman seated herself in the psychiatrist's office.
"What seems to be the problem?" the doctor asked.
"Well, I, uh," she stammered. "I think I, uh, might be a nymphomaniac."
"I see," he said. "I can help you, but I must advise you that my fee is $80 an hour."
"That's not bad," she replied. "How much for all night?"
