No to Communal Satellite Dishes

Although the Board have not made an official announcement, it is understood that the poll of London Yard property owners failed to produce the necessary numbers in favour of the scheme.

A relatively small poll produced a very small majority in favour of the installation of communal satellite dishes but legal advice, obtained by the Board, confirmed that the proposal needed 100% positive acceptance of the scheme to succeed.

With the cabling of the estate being ruled out, the Board have little option but to agree not to enforce the lease covenants forbidding individual satellite dishes. Legal advice says that the Board is not obliged to enforce the covenants - it does not enforce the prohibition on wood block flooring. It would, however, be possible for an individual property owner to attempt to enforce the covenant against an owner with a satellite dish but a financial loss would need to be established as a result of the dish being present and the owner bringing the legal action must also be prepared to finance it. Given the Management Company attitude; the length of time the dish would have been there and the fact that other dish owners would not be affected by the individual case, such an action would likely to be unsuccessful.

What the Board could do is issue guidelines for satellite dishes such as that they should be as small as possible; brown or black and with brown cabling. This would ensure that the dishes blended in with the buildings as much as possible. This would give back to the Board some level of control whilst accepting that the only way subscription TV channels can be accessed at London Yard is by individual satellite dishes.

Augustine has left London Yard to work at another site. He may be back periodically to stand in for the new London Yard Guard who is Mahadeo Nagina. Say hello when you see him and make him welcome.
