Releasing
Gas
No, not from a residents' meeting but from under the lining of the
pond. London Yard was once a swamp and methane gas builds up under the
pond causing the pond lining to rise. Periodically, this has to be
pumped out by Barry Morgan and his mate.

Yard
May Be Part of the Congestion Charge Area
Transport
for London is set to investigate whether it could make the whole of
Tower Hamlets part of a new zone, or if a "bubble" could be
built around certain areas, such a Canary Wharf.
A
TfL spokesperson said: "The London Mayor will look at various
schemes if the initial phase is seen as successful."

Police
Cannot Pursue Bike Gangs
The
East London Advertiser reports that the police will not pursue motorbike
gangs that are damaging grassed areas in the local parks - and London
Yard.
Sgt.
Atkins, from the Isle of Dogs Community Police Team based at Manchester
Road, is reported as saying that the police do not have the resources to
respond to calls.

Cockney
On-Line
Everything
that you didn't think you would need to know about being a
cockney. History of the East End; cockney rabbit (slang); the
secret east London and locations for films and TV series. For
instance, did you know that the first episode of "The
Prisoner" (1967) featured very fast driving through the
Rotherhithe Tunnel? Well, you will find other things that are
actually interesting on this site.
Warning
- the opening page contains loud music.

Attend
the AGM
The
Annual General Meeting for shareholders in the London Yard Management
Company Ltd (property owners) has been arranged for upstairs at the Pier
Tavern on Wednesday, 15th January 2003 (7.30 p.m.). The original meeting
in December was cancelled because of a failure to send out the necessary
paperwork on time. Shareholders were, however, given a generous two days
formal notice of the cancellation.
This
is the only occasion when Yarders can express any concerns that they
have to the Board and managing agent.

Lovelace
The first
computer was invented by Roger "Duffy" Billingsly, a British
scientist. In a plot to overthrow Adolf Hitler, Duffy sent his machine
to the dictator. The plot worked. On April 8, 1945, Adolf became so
enraged at the "Incompatible File Format" error message that
he shot himself. The war ended and Duffy began working for IBM.

had good luck in the Bond Market. I bought an 007 lunch box at a
car-boot sale for £25 and sold it on eBay for £300."
