Welcome to the London Yard Website

Snowtastic!

We do not often get deep snow at London Yard. In fact, this must be the most that has fallen in the last ten years. Pretty, isn't it? But, less than 48 hours later, it had all disappeared.

Board Under Fire at AGM

This year's Annual General Meeting of the Management Company, as expected, proved to be the most turbulent in years. Shareholders complained of the failure of essential papers being supplied before the meeting and over six months of a management agent who had failed to respond to correspondence, telephone calls and emails.

Christine Inglis, Chairman of the meeting, admitted to all the shortcomings and announced that steps had, in the last few weeks, been taken to rectify the situation. Christine introduced Howard Weinstein (see right) who undertook to radically improve the service to shareholders.

In her report, Christine reported on the issues that the Board had successfully tackled during the past year. These included the review, and subsequent improvement, of London Yard's security; the study into the provision of CCTV and the continuing investigations into the provision of communal satellite dishes. Christine also said that, in the coming year, the Board would be seeking ways to increase the communication between residents, the Board of Management and the managing agents. The setting up of Board Sub-Committees in which residents could be included would be considered.

Property Values may suffer

Lee Bowyer is set to move into his £600,000 flat on the 11th floor of Berkley Tower at the Canary Riverside development.

He signed for West Ham United on 8th January from Newcastle United. Poplar-born Bowyer was fined £4,500 after a violent attack in Canary Wharf McDonalds in 1996.

Council Tax Shock from Ken

East Enders could face a council tax hike of more that £60 a year from April. This follows a proposal from Ken Livingston to raise his portion of the council tax by 36 percent. This will mean that the average Band D properties will be paying an extra £62.12p p.a. The increase would bring Livingstone's total increase to £113 in three years.

Millennium Quarter

The Millennium Quarter is the 50-acre area at the other side of Millwall Dock - immediately to the south of Canary Wharf. The redevelopment, planned to start next year and finish in 2005, will see "the creation of 2,000 new homes, 460,000sq m (5m sq ft) of commercial space, new transport facilities (a claim likely to be be impossible to be met - Ed) and improved public spaces." The maximum height is 25-storeys at the northern end of the quarter, stepping down gradually to meet adjacent low-rise. This development, apart from being visible from London Yard, will bring thousands of additional commuters to the Isle of Dogs - both clogging up the public transport facilities still further and, more hopefully, providing potential buyers and tenants for our properties.

Mayumi and Alex have fun in the first snow of winter by creating a new Rotterdam Drive resident. Any resemblance to Barry Morgan is purely coincidental.

Under New Management!

Howard Weinstein (right) has taken over from Robert Bronson as the Property Manager responsible for London Yard.  He has been in the property business for 8 years. Howard looks forward to a constructive and progressive period of management at London Yard, and will be assisted in this task by his colleague Paul Hnatiuk, both of whom assure you of their best efforts in maintaining and hopefully improving the property as a whole for the benefit of all residents.
