More news is good news

Following calls at the AGM for better communication between the Management Company and shareholders and residents of London Yard, the Board has decided to issue a bulletin after each meeting.

The bulletins will be published on this website, displayed on notice boards in the main blocks and on a new notice board to be set up on the wall of the Security Hut in Leerdam Drive. At the AGM, Christine Inglis (above) undertook to address the perceived problem of communication between residents, the board of management and the managing agent.

The first bulletin, a summary of the Board meeting of the 30th January, shows that the Board discussed abandoned cars; security and lighting; sub-committees and the future of the managing agent.

Sparrows Thriving on the Island

Sparrows, once considered a menace, have been in decline for many years. But, according to a survey carried out by the Greater London Authority, the Isle of Dogs appears to be the only part of London where the birds are thriving.

The most populated neighbourhood, in the whole of Greater London, was the Millwall and Cubitt Town area with an average of 12 to each household.

Police Hunt Bike Pests

Motorcyclists who terrorise the Island are to be targeted by police. The bikers are often under-age and riding illegally. The problem is particularly bad in Millwall and Mudchute Parks.

Now the Isle of Dogs Police, under the head of community inspector Adam Redgwell, have joined forces with Tower Hamlets Council's recreational department to tackle the problem.

Only two months ago the police claimed that they could do nothing about it.

East London Markets - Streetwise Bargains

Don't wait for the sales in the shops - you can find a bargain all year round in the East London markets. This isn't just shopping, it's entertainment. Enjoy the bustle and banter of the traders and colourful characters.

All the markets in the area are well worth a visit. Each has its own very distinctive atmosphere and specialty. Brick Lane is home to bric-a-brac, while Columbia Road Flower Market is a paradise for vegetables, and Petticoat Lane - the oldest and probably most famous market - sells all kinds of clothes, records, leather goods and toys. Find details of markets in East London at this website.

Committees if you want them!

Board Sub-Committees will be set up where there is sufficient demand by Yarder shareholders.

Some years ago there were sub-committees that dealt with gardening and Security and caretaker services. These could be reinstated if non-board member shareholders and residents feel that they would like to participate. The sub-committees would be free to make recommendations to the full Board of management.

So, if you feel that a committee is needed on a particular subject and you would like to take part, email the directors now!

If a Security sub-committee is thought to be a good idea, perhaps the Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator's existing structure should be utilized.

Website now available to all - Free

Our local Cubitt Town Library now has a number of computers linked to the internet.

Most residents have access to the Londonyard.com website at home or in their office. But, for those that do not have internet access, the local library in Strattondale Street can keep you in touch with news of London Yard. Residents can surf the web there free of charge.
