Asda Site Revamp

Public consultation is about to begin on Asda-Walmart's plan to redevelop their Isle of Dogs site. The proposal includes, apart from a new Asda store, 500 residential units 25% of which would be 'affordable'. More retail outlets and an Ideas Store (replacement library) are also included. The highest building is expected to be twelve storeys. See East End Life for consultation details.

Mudchute gets Lottery Funding

Mudchute Park and Farm has received a grant from the Lottery Community Fund. It is intended that the money will pay for a new farm yard, a teaching room, secure animal housing, event space and farm offices. Mudchute has suffered recently from vandals attacking animals as well as stray dogs and wild foxes.

On Yer Bike - With the Tower Hamlets Wheelers

The local cycling campaign group in East End of London. The main objectives of the Wheelers is to encourage more people to cycle, improve conditions for cyclists and to raise the profile of cycling in the East End. This involves bringing the issues to the attention of the local council and other authorities. They also organise social events to bring cyclists in the area together. Tower Hamlets Wheelers are organising a number of great events for their Bike Week 14th to 22nd June. As well as welcoming all to come along and join in the fun, they are always looking for more volunteers to help. Have a look at the Bike Week activities list.

Car Towed Away

In an attempt to free-up more parking spaces on the estate, the managing agents contacted the Tower Hamlets Abandoned Vehicles Unit and represented four vehicles on the estate as being abandoned. Had the agents asked London Yard staff about the vehicles they would have been told that they were not abandoned and were owned by property owners. It is uncertain whether they bothered to do this. In three of the cases the owners merely informed the Council that their vehicle was not abandoned but one owner didn't act quickly enough. London Yard is short of parking spaces and unused vehicles do not help. But, the parking regulations, which at present do not cover this situation, can be changed by the Board following consultation with property owners.

Parking Scheme Enforcement Stops

It is worth noting that there has been no parking enforcement for the last two months because the Security staff ran out of the window stickers and the managing agents have failed to produce any new stock.

It is hoped that the Board will address this issue as soon as possible.
