New Street Lights

The new street lights are beginning to be installed on the estate.

Don, the electrician who does most of the electrical work for London Yard has installed the first lamp in Leerdam Drive. This first lamp is just to enable him to confirm that the lamp-head fitted the post correctly. Now that has been done, the remaining couple of dozen are now on order and will be installed when they have been received from the supplier.

The new lamp is a vast improvement on the existing lamp-heads and should improve both the look of the estate as well as improve security. The lamp is of clear plastic with a black top to reduce light-pollution. It is not one of the models previously installed outside of Van Gogh Court, in March, for residents to comment on. The Board of Management's choice, however, is probably an improvement on those examples and retains the globe of the orginal design.

The Pier Tavern - Manchester Road
You are to welcome to visit the famous Pier Tavern on the Isle of Dogs. The regulars enjoy good food and quality beers, wines and spirits, all served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There is a busy social schedule: quiz night on a Tuesday is very popular with all proceeds going to a nominated charity. Saturday evenings are busy, with live music and lots of dancing. The Big Screen shows sporting events.

More Free Publicity

The Editor of the East London Advertiser has owned up to using our history web pages. Part Two of the history was published on October 16th and the website link was acknowledged. This followed a letter of protest from Angela Brown. Great publicity for London Yard though.

RESIDENTS' FURY OVER FLAT CHARGES - Not Us (Yet)

FURIOUS residents of a Canary Wharf development have started a legal battle with their landlords over "excessive" service charges.

Two Canary Riverside residents are taking action against owners Canary Riverside Properties PTE Ltd after the charges rose by almost 30 per cent in the last year.

"We're bringing the action on the grounds of a failure to control costs because the service charges are so high," Chris Shilling, told The Wharf. A date has been set for December 1 at the capital's Leasehold Valuation Tribunal for the hearing.
