Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all Yarders

 Frans Hals Court

Van Gogh Court

Vermeer Court

Lamps Installed

Don Chaffey has installed the new lamps at London Yard. Even the lamps on the river walkway, which technically belong to the local council have been updated.

The improvement throughout the estate is striking. The new lamps improve visibility for people walking around the estate as well as providing increased security. At the moment, the three trial lamps previously installed outside Van Gogh Court are being retained. They do not match the rest of the estate. If you are an order-junkie and you think that they should also be replaced, say so on the Forum.

No Accounting for Taste

The first extension to a London Yard property has been erected at the rear of one of the Manchester Road houses. It is of white PVC manufacture and is out of sympathy with the existing building. It is to be hoped that the Management Company will take legal advice as it may contravene a freehold covenant which states, "The Transferee will not erect or permit to be erected on the Property in front of the prescribed building line any fence or wall or other building or structure of whatsoever nature." This could prove to be a very expensive piece of bad taste by the property owner. Whatever next - Yorkstone cladding?

Safer Streets
This Isle of Dogs website has just been set up by a local man with the aim of promoting a sense of community and to urge residents to take a stand. The idea is for Islanders to gather information themselves, including names and photos of gang members, and email it in. The information will then be used to provide a running log of youth-related disorder, and will ultimately be passed on to the police and council.

New Border Style

David Hunwick, the guy in charge of London Yard's gardens, is trying out a new plant-bed border style. Next to the path between Frans Hals Court and Van Gogh Court he has cleared a bed in preparation for more planting and installed a split log as a border. It will later be stained the same colour as the posts. He is interested in any reaction to this new style. If you have a view - give it on the Forum.

Director Stands Down

Another director has stood down from the Board of the management company. Michael Donnelly, who joined the Board early in 2002, has had to step down due to pressure of work. Michael is the third director who has left the Board this year.

Crossrail Link Gets OK From Public

CROSSRAIL, the proposed line to link the Isle of Dogs with Heathrow and Paddington, has received tremendous public support.

The news comes after a three-month consultation, during which information centres were set up in Canada Place Mall by Cross London Rail Links, the consortium responsible for the £10billion line.

Yarders who would still like to respond to the proposal can visit www.crossrail.co.uk.
