Dome not Doomed Greenwich Peninsula Plans Work on redeveloping the Greenwich Peninsula will begin next year after a £5bn project has got the final go ahead. The bad news is that the revamp does not appear to include the gravel works opposite London Yard (see artwork below).
The 20-year development project will begin with the construction of a new 26,000 capacity arena, under the Dome roof, due to start in Spring 2005. More details from: www.englishpartnerships.co.uk/greenwichpeninsula
Since the time that an unknown resident tipped a bowl of goldfish into the pond about ten years ago, everyone has been watching the annual increase in the number, and size, of the fish.

Up in the Gutter
Meet the house martins, Martin Buckley and Martin Jackson who, during early June, became quite accustomed to working in the gutters. Operating a cherrypicker, they cleared out all the guttering of London Yard buildings. The blocked gutters were causing water to overflow into the gaps between the brickwork. A job not without its dangers - On at least one occasion they were required to escape a malfunctioning cherrypicker onto a balcony.

Fish
Galore
This
year has proved to be better than most with literally hundreds of
goldfish and, a surprise to all, at least three fish that are now over a
foot long. Fortunately, the large fish seem to hide in the rushes and
staging most of the time because it is no doubt that they are now
valuable items. So, keep your eyes peeled for poachers - Both the game
and cooking variety.
