Two photographs found, discarded in the rubbish, by Barry Morgan, the caretaker. They are difficult to date but the aerial view of London Yard must be in the late 1980's or early 1990's because the school on Manchester Road is missing some buildings. Also, there is a block of flats missing from next to the school. London Yard seems to be devoid of trees. If the original owner of the photographs reads this newsletter and remembers the date, please email the editor.

David Thompson

Joins the Board

David Thompson (Frans Hals Court) has accepted an invitation to be co-opted to the Bard of the London Yard Management Company. David moved to London Yard last April, having been brought up south of the river in Blackheath and lived in Birmingham for 20 years.  He is a human resources outsourcing consultant and can be seen commuting on the DLR to London Bridge when his day does not start at London City Airport.  Fascinated by the unrivalled view of Thames detritus from the top floor of Frans Hals Court, David's first mission was to clean up the  beach - not an exercise that will prove a lasting monument to him, judging by its present state!  David is a strong supporter of the London Yard website and intends to make the Board and its decisions more transparent through better communication, both electronic and paper.

Compare the London Yard aerial view with a similar view drawn of London Yard in 1862 when London Yard was owned by shipbuilders Westwood & Baillie.

Besides shipping, a large domed structure was under construction - Probably part of a palace built by Westwood & Baillie for the Sultan of Turkey and erected at Istanbul.

Let There Be Light

In order to improve the security and the amenity value of the car park at the rear of Frans Hals Court, a new lamp post and directional lamp has been installed.

As well as lighting up the car park it has shed some light on the quality of lighting  throughout London Yard. The new lamp appears to be much brighter than the existing lamps. The technical view is that the older lights are suffering from age - the lampshades and bulbs should be replaced. The existing lamp design does not conform with current thinking on light-pollution so the Board has asked for alternative lampshade designs to be considered in the expectation that light pollution could be reduced.

The installation of a new lamp to light up the walkway between Rotterdam Drive and the pond bridge has been delayed by a few weeks due to the lack of a power source.

Thames 21

Clampdown on Bad Parking

The Board have decided to clampdown on double parking; parking outside flat blocks; parking on pavements or in any other unauthorised place - so be warned. The Board, however, declined to remove the wooden posts which are the major cause of double parking in Amsterdam Road.
